August 15th, 2015 marked the first annual “Kick it for Uganda” fundraiser event in Bonn, Germany. It was organized by Jens Hirschfeld, a former volunteer from 2015. He worked with our partner, Hopeline Organization, for 2 months.

Kick it for Uganda was a family day for German football fans. 20 teams competed in the tournament. There was a bouncy castle and face painting for kids. Refreshments were available all day. More than 500 people from the local community came out. It was a huge amount of work, resulting in a huge amount of fun. Kick it for Uganda raised 1,700 Euro!

Here are some of Jens’ photos from the day:

Funds will go toward our partner program, Hopeline Organization, in Lugazi, and to our Hot Lunch Program at Nalusse Success Primary School in Mukono Town. Our lunch program has given a hot meal to 120 needy kids each school day since 2008. Here’s what it looks like:

The Kick it for Uganda proceeds received, $836, are almost enough to complete the funding for the first term of the 2016 academic year for the lunch program. In order to feed the kids for the full term, we still require $464.  If you’d like to know more about this initiative, and to make a donation, click here.

Thanks Jens for staying in touch with us in the almost one year since you left! It’s gratifying to know what a mark Uganda has left on you.
