It’s that time of year again! The Real Uganda, in conjunction with Global Youth Ambassador Program, is gathering a group to run the Uganda International Marathon in June, 2017. Adventure and community engagement come together in this unique week long event.
Our participants choose to run a 10k, half, or full marathon in western Uganda. Come and run alongside Ugandans through sweeping rural landscapes, and be cheered on by the local community. You won’t find a more spirited bunch!
Then spend 2 days visiting our community projects to meet some of the children and youth that benefit from our ongoing programs.
You’ll meet people from all over the world, jog some crazy terrain, view amazing natural landscapes, and exchange culture with real Ugandans.
RELATED: Read about our 2016 marathon trip! The funds raised by last year’s group bought a parcel of land for Christian Heritage Centre, Najjembe, on which to build teachers’ housing. The funds also re-built a crumbling classroom block, and paid for a hot lunch for 120 kids for 2 full school terms, at Nalusse Success Primary School in Mukono.
For the 2017 group, full costs covering all marathon fees, in-country transportation, accommodation, meals, a $300 donation to The Real Uganda’s programs, and a $50 donation to the marathon organizers (which allows Ugandans to run for free!) are just $1,550USD.
We’re offering 3 fun add-ons as well. You can choose to go white water rafting on the River Nile, on wildlife safari to Murchison Falls National Park, and/or on a motorcycle tour of Kampala. All this travel, culture, and outdoor adventure is guaranteed to get Uganda under your skin for life.
Register and secure your spot with a $250 deposit. Be sure to share this with everyone you know – you’d be surprised how many people aren’t aware of this opportunity! [edit June, 2017: applications are closed – we’ve just completed our 2017 marathon! Watch this space for updates…]
See you in June!!
