In July of this year, The Real Uganda hosted it’s first Global Youth Ambassador field tour. The Global Youth Ambassador Program (GYAP) is an amazing new concept that targets youth to become change makers and global citizens now – rather than as adults, graduates, professionals, etc. The program exposes young leaders to role models, highlights career and travel opportunities, and encourages a global mindset. It develops its young leaders through mentoring, hands-on training, and education through global experiences.
Global experiences, you ask? That’s where The Real Uganda comes in. We are proud to announce that TRU is GYAP’s partner on the ground in Uganda! Our first GYAP tour was such a success, that we’ve been offered the chance to host 2 more tours in 2017. GYAP in Uganda is now accepting applications for July 9-16 and September 24-October 1. Secure your place now.
Want to get a better sense of what’s it all about? Read about our July 2016 field tour. 16 young women spent 5 days with 5 of our partner programs, zip-lined in Mabira Forest, took a boat ride to the source of the River Nile, and visited the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. Each evening they had a chance to de-brief – to learn and grow from that day’s experience. By the end of their stay, the girls recognized that Ugandans are working to build their futures and communities on their own terms. They understood that Ugandans are strong, capable, and engaged citizens who want to learn through cultural exchange as well.
We cannot wait to be a part of shaping the ideas and perceptions of more young leaders in 2017. Watch this space for updates!
Want to join us in the community for an extended length of time? Want to learn about the reality of life in Uganda? Want to meet amazing people and sweat it out together? Think about volunteering in Uganda.
We’re looking for people interested in digging into whatever needs to be done, self-reflection, and meaningful cultural exchange.
